This was a new event on the calendar and made for an interesting and enjoyable challenge despite the rain showers last night. The 2 events were run back to back with the Hill Climb results on own their own being used as part of the Hill Climber competition, and the combined times from the 2 events being counted in all other competitions.
The hill climb was short and steep and Steve Cairns on his TT bike narrowly beat Gordon Chisholm by 2 seconds. The sprint TT as expected was very close in terms of times, but again Steve proved to be the strongest rider clocking 2:08 to beat Dave Nicoll by 4 seconds over the mile. What had looked like a really fast and slightly downhill course on paper proved to be much tougher in the headwind. Laura Kent was fastest of the ladies and Campbell Hay was collected all the points in the Youth BAR in his first race with the club.
Big thanks to Stuart Deed, Alastair Thomson and John Smith for doing the starting and timekeeping duties
You can download a copy of the Current Standings for all the competitions (Updated 25/08/14). The positions as they stand are as follows:
Mens Championship. Steve Cairns has an unassailable lead in the standings. Dave Nicoll is 2nd, but could still be caught by 3rd placed Richard Dowling.
Ladies Championship. Won by Anne Chisholm. Looks like there will be more riders in this competition next season making it a more competitive event.
Handicap. Steve Cairns holds a 4 point lead, but looks likely to lose out to one of a chasing group of 5 riders (Bruce Ferguson, Dave Nicoll, Grahame Hay, John Smith and Richard Dowling) who are close behind with races and bonus points still to add on.
Hill Climber. As the season ends this just gets going. Steve Cairns leads with his win in the Gask Hill climb, but there are 2 more events (Dupplin and Bowerswell) still to count in the competition.
Senior BAR. John Smith holds a commanding lead in this one with Hamish Law 2nd and Brian Teven in 3rd place.
Youth BAR. Could see some competition at the end of the season with Charlie Swan and Campbell Hay level on points having done one event each.
