I had spent a couple of hours at the pool where my fiance lived, using the standard tanning lotion for 1975, no SPF in those days. I hadn’t even thought about one not insignificant detail. I had started taking birth control pills, and as I later found out, one can become more sun-sensitive as a result. By the next day, every part of my body that had been exposed to the sun was swollen, including my face. It hurt to move. I spent days rehydrating and caring for my skin, being careful to not unnecessarily split my skin by moving too much. Fortunately, my skin returned to normal in time for the wedding, no more swelling, no more peeling!
