They started debating in English whether it would be safe for them to drink the water. As I kept dranking I invited them with a smile and gestures to drink. One of them said, “He’s drinking the water, it must be safe.” But another said, “But he’s a native so he’s used to it.” I kept gesturing for them to drink. It was now intensely hot. They decided it would be too risky to drink. It was rude of me not to speak to them in English and assure them that the water was perfectly safe to drink, even for a visiting American.
