Act Three
SCENE I:
VALERIO and Child
Valerio reflects on his affection for his child and the mother's fickleness, and in this moment...
SCENE II:
LUCINDA, VALERIO, Child, and COLA
While Valerio is exaggerating, he leaves the child aside. Lucinda sees the child and stealthily calls him, leading him into the house without speaking. After his exaggeration, Valerio extends his hand and tells the child to come. Cola offers his hand to Valerio. Valerio wants to kiss his son; after realizing it's Cola, Valerio slaps him. Cola leaves, and Valerio begins to deliriously wander off, leaving his cloak and hat on the ground.
SCENE III:
COLA and later LUCINDA
Cola takes the cloak and hat, makes jokes, and then leaves.
SCENE IV:
LUCINDA and later VALERIO
Lucinda makes a scene of wanting to return to her homeland, hoping that her parents will forgive her, and in this...
SCENE V:
VALERIO and LUCINDA
Valerio acts like a madman, he doesn't recognize Lucinda. She shows compassion and tries to bring him back to his senses. He doesn't understand and leaves, while Lucinda goes inside.
SCENE VI:
COLA with a cloak and hat
He plays tricks in this scene. Lucinda mistakes him for Valerio, thinking that he has regained his senses. She kneels and begs him to listen to her apologies. He, disguised, does not reveal his true identity.
SCENE VII FINALE:
VALERIO and others
Valerio, having regained his senses, sees Cola wearing his cloak and hat. He reaches for his sword to kill him, but Cola kneels and begs for forgiveness, explaining that he did everything to help his master, who was in love with Lucinda. He reveals that Lucinda is a highly honorable lady and has not committed any wrongdoing. Valerio forgives him, reconciles with Lucinda, and the comedy ends.
