Child Friendly Shows

The commedia dell'arte was always a somewhat vulgar and controversial form of theatre in the Renaissance through the 18th century, getting banned off and on for its perceived negative influence and obscenity. In the conservative 19th century the characters became more soft and cutesy, evolving into pantomime and other child-friendly entertainments. Like Punch and Judy.

And guess what? I've been getting some amazing feedback about my plays and scenarios! It seems they're a hit with children's theatre companies and schools. They love to adapt them, making them more suitable for young performers by removing the icky romantic plots and adult humor. But I think of this as akin to sending Braghettone to paint underwear on the Sistine Chapel figures.

However, fear not! There are scripts and scenarios in this collection that are already perfectly suited for these more wholesome productions. To make things easier for you, I've compiled a list of these delightful options below. So let the magic unfold and bring joy to audiences young and old alike!

It should also be noted that, whatever modern day mores might be, the following shows were actually written for children's theatre companies:

Protip: Kids don't need to understand what they're saying. They just need to be able to say it the way the director tells them. (Same is true of adult actors!)
