Makes approximately 2 dozen (3 1/2-inch x 1-inch) treats
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg
1/2 cup *peanut butter (*make sure your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol sweetener which is harmful to dogs)
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup oats (quick or old-fashioned)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In the bowl of food processor, add applesauce, egg, and peanut butter. Pulse to combine.
Add flour, cornmeal, and oats and process until dough comes together.
Turn dough onto floured surface and knead and roll out to 1/4- 1/2 inch thick and cut into shapes. (Dough will be crumbly). Reroll scraps and repeat.
Place treats on parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes – 15 minutes or until treats are firm and edges are starting to brown. Cool on a wire rack and store treats in airtight container or freeze part for later.
You can use any shape or size cookie cutter to make these treats. If you’re using a larger size cookie cutter, increase the baking time.
