The Stan’s 1 st FA Cup tie was in 1920 when they were beaten 6-0 away at Preston Colliery, who later became North Shields.
The club’s best run came in their 2nd season in the cup in 1949-50 when they made it to a 4th round of qualifying.
In 1954, after beating Lynemouth, although the Journal described them as’ full of fight’ the Stan were then beaten 6-1 away by Ashington.
Back in the cup 23 years later, they were beaten 3-0 by Shildon.
2015 saw a high-profile return as the lowest ranked team in the cup. Goals by Wear, Wright & Rowntree saw the Stan defeat division 1 Norton & Stockton Ancients 3-1. They were then undeservedly beaten 2-1 by division 1 Whitley Bay at Hillheads with the goal coming from Hoggins.
In 2016 the Stan were beaten 3-2 at home by West Auckland Town with Imray & Bailey scoring.
In 2017 the Stan had a great 1-0 win away at Team North, thanks to a Wright penalty, but then went down 4-0 at Consett.
In 2018, after a 1-1 draw at Seaham where Shane Jones scored, the Stan went out on penalties after an epic 4-4 replay. Wright (2), Kerridge and Robertson scored.
They did not qualify in 2019 but did so in 2020 when they were drawn out of a hat as one of NL2’s 4 representatives due to the 19-20 league not being completed due to covid. They lost 3-2 at home to West Auckland with goals from Campbell & Paterson. West’s winner came in the 95th minute, just before penalties were set to take place.
For 21-22, league restructuring meant no tier 6 teams participated in Cup.
In 2022, the Stan started with a 1-0 home win over Pickering, thanks to an Anderson goal, followed by a 4-1 home win over North Ferriby with goals from Shepherd, Watson, Lamb & Cowburn. The Stan drew 1-1 at NP West Clitheroe thanks to a Burn equaliser but lost the replay at home 1-2 in front of a crowd of 883 with Anderson scoring.
Last season, goals by Hopper (2), M Turnbull, Lamb & Lashley saw Tow Law beaten 5-0 followed by a brilliant 2-0 win at Hebburn with goals from Burn & Lashley. The Stan then lost 2-1 at Tadcaster with Lamb getting a goal back.
