All Time F. A. Cup Record

The Stan played one FA Cup tie prior to the second world war on 11 September 1920 when they were beaten 6-0 away at Preston Colliery, who later became fellow Northern League Side North Shields.

The Stan were not to play in the FA Cup again until 29 years later in 1949 when they played 6 ties (including 3 wins and 2 draws) before being beaten by Blyth Spartans.

The club’s best run came in their second season in the cup in 1949-50 when they made it to a fourth round of qualifying. The next run came in 1954 when they beat Lynemouth after a draw. Although the Journal described them as’ full of fight’ the Stan were then beaten 6-1 away by Ashington. Before 2015, the Stan had not been involved in the FA Cup for 39 years. On Saturday 18 September 1976, the club were beaten 3-0 at Newton Park by Shildon. Goals by Forster, Tinkler and Roughly stopped the Stan from travelling to Barrow in the next round.

August 2015 saw the Stan make a high profile return as the lowest ranked team in the cup. Goals from Wear, Wright and Rowntree saw the Stan defeat division one Norton 3-1. In the preliminary round, the Stan were undeservedly beaten 2-1 by division one Whitley Bay at Hillheads with the goal coming from Hoggins. Two years ago, the Stan were beaten 3-2 at home by the original world cup winners, West Auckland Town. Imray and Bailey scored for the Stan. Last season the Stan had a great 1-0 win away at local rivals Team North, thanks to a Jon Jon Wright penalty, but then went down 4-0 at Consett in the preliminary round.

Preston Colliery, at home, easily disposed of Heaton Stannington. Dixon opened the scoring for the Shields team in the first minute, and added a second goal twenty minutes later. Heaton did well in midfield but finished weakly, and Thompson scored another for Preston.

After the change of ends Preston continued to have matters pretty much their own way and scored three more goals, eventually running out victors by six goals to none.
