Whickham  4 - 1  Heaton Stannington

Northern League Division 1

A game of 2 halves, an early goal for Stan but they were not able to add to that, conceding a poor goal in added on time in the first half, and never really got playing in the second half conceding three more goals to give Whickham a double over the Stan.

Kyle Patton netted on 2 minutes but it was disallowed for offside.

Stan took the lead on 10 minutes when Jordan Lashley gave the ball to Louis Anderson, he fed debutant Jake Turnbull who won a corner. From it there was a mix up in the home defence for Lashley to have the relatively easy chance, rolling the ball into the bottom far corner. 0-1 His 6th league goal of the season.

Stan counter attacked well with the lively Lashley on the ball, trying a long range lob over keeper Nathan Harker who saved easily.

Whickham came close when a shot deflected off Jordan Watson for a corner. Whickham were using Jack Robson a lot on the right flank, but so far no problems.

On 21 minutes Joe Shepherd took out Greenwood as he tried to get onto a decent ball down the left flank. Yellow card for Shepherd.

Dan Stephenson had a shot blocked by Harker on 25 minutes. Tom Flynn, playing as Greg Purvis failed a fitness test, (following that horrific unpunished foul in his chest on Wednesday night) was having a good game, with excellent handling.

Whickham tried a long shot but it went well wide. Anderson back helping his defence at a set piece needed help as he lay flat on the deck. He was able to continue.

Whickham won a corner on the right which Jamie Dunn headed powerfully towards the top of the net, but Flynn magnificently finger tipped over the bar. From the corner Flynn again to the rescue as he turned around his post a goal bound shot.

However in added on time Flynn slipped when a through ball came his way, leaving Patton the simple job to equalise. 1-1

H.T. 1-1

On 49 minutes Patton in a good position but Flynn saved well. Greenwood fired wide of the far post.

Stan won a corner on the right, Stephenson took it with Andy Burns header which brought a corner on the left.

Turnbull did well to get to the byline, Anderson surrounded by defenders but he managed to shoot, wide of the upright.

However, Whickham went into the lead on 63 minutes when a good ball out left for Greenwood, he cut inside, rifling a low shot in. 2-1

10 minutes later and Greenwood again, low shot. 3-1

Whickham had changed the game and were well on top. However Dunn was sin binned and full back Dominic Agnew was booked. Stan sought a goal to get back into the match.

But Greenwood completed his hat trick in the 4th minute of added on time, Stan had most of their players in the opposition half, Whickham broke away with pace and netted.4-1 That’s 9 league goals for him this season.

In Stan’s last 14 matches they now have lost 2 of them. Tired legs and bodies, but a few days for Stan players to recover, having played just two earlier against Ashington.
