Heaton Stannington 4-2 Shankhouse

Pre Season Friendly

The Stan’s 3rd friendly saw them play Northern Alliance premier Shankhouse who included 4 ex-Stan in Russell Ward, Ben Telford, Kevin Westphal and Billy Walker.

Shankhouse started well but were relatively weak at the back. They did though take the lead in 31 minutes with a great goal that involved a cross into the box from Billy Walker. 3 minutes later and a McKenna shot saw the Stan equalise. After another 3 minutes, a 3 man move resulted in Jones, who had a great first half, making it 2-1 when he fired low from the right into the far left corner.

In the 43rd minute, Robinson outraced 2 defenders and beat the keeper to head over him into the net. The half ended 3-1 to the Stan though 2-1 would have been fairer to Shankhouse who battled well.

The 2nd half saw the Stan dominate as they put on additional firepower in Wright, Portella, Hoggins and Yates although there was only 1 additional goal to show for it and that was before they came on.

In 53 minutes Robinson went into the edge of the box and calmly under pressure shot to make it 4-1. Wright had numerous chances which should have been put away regardless of his double penalty claim in 74 minutes.

It was Shankhouse though, against the run of play, who scored in 82 minutes. Hoggins blocked an effort on the line but the visitors scored from the rebound. Wright broke free in 85 minutes and should have made it 5-2 but shot just wide.

The game ended with him being blocked then Johnson volleying over.
