Washington 1- 3 Heaton Stannington

EBAC Northern League Div 2

The Stan made it back to back victories on the road, with a 3-1 win over Washington at a chilly Nissan Sports Complex.

Goals from Thibault Charmey (more about that one later) David Mason & Connor Campbell secured the win with Fraser Colling getting a consolation goal for the hosts late on in the game.

Stan gaffer, Derek Thompson made one change from last weeks victory at Synners with Josh Holland replacing Danny Sayer. Dean Imray was on the bench after recovering from injury.

Stan got us underway with a sparse crowd in attendance but the majority were supporting the black n whites. Washington were immediately on the attack and captain Josh Allen had a good shot deflected over for a corner, which was then wasted. Poor defending by Stan’s Sakellaropoulas trying to be too clever let in Ramshaw but Stan gloveman Mordey blocked it with his feet.

Washington were causing the Stan all sorts of problems when Calling this time brought out another good stop from Mordey. On 15mins a direct free kick to Washington was brilliantly tipped onto the bar by Mordey, who was easily the busier of the two keepers. Mid way through the half and the Stan could have been two down.

It took till 25mins for the Stan to register their first shot on goal, but Robertson’s shot lacked venom and was easily dealt with. The Stan were stuttering into life near the end of the half when Lewis Burns raced onto a ball but his shot was high and wide. On 41mins the game was turned on its head with a deep corner from the Stan and Thibault Charmey jumped sideways on and volleyed the ball into the top corner, for a truly memorable goal to put the Stan 1-0 up. It was an absolute amazing piece of skill and superb technique. The Stan went into the break rather fortunate to be 1-0 up.

Second half.

Washington got us underway and the Stan recovered the ball and sent David Mason through who unleashed a powerful shot into the top right corner to double the Stan’s lead 35 seconds in. With the two goal cushion the Stan began to control the game and attack more freely with Campbell and Robertson having chances.

Just on the hour a great turn and shot by Robertson was spilled by the Washington keeper and Burns lashed it into the roof of the net, but the assistant ruled it out for offside. On 66mins a mazy run by Hall beating three players into the Washington box but his shot was high and wide. It certainly would’ve rivalled Charmey’s goal. With the Stan dominating proceedings it was invetible that Connor Campbell would get on the score sheet and he duly did on 69mins when he was put through and buried the goal to the keepers right giving him no chance.

With the game seemingly won the Stan made three substations within 7mins with Holland, Campbell & Robertson replaced by Martin, Hoggins & Fox respectively. However the Stan being the Stan made things a tad uncomfortable when Washington pulled a goal back on 82mins when Fraser Colling scored a nice goal. The Stan thought they had a fourth right on full time when Hoggins bundled the ball and unfortunately for him the keeper into the net, the ref was having none of it and rightly disallowed the goal. The ref blew for full time after 3mins injury time.
