This area is a little more ambiguous then the Available Powers section and is crafted towards giving you the option to make your character and their contribution to the game unique. Here are some things the mods would like to see in game, as well as a way to prevent duplications of characters with the same specialties and skills.
First, humans are a character option. Humans live among the X-Men on Phoenix Cove, and would be a unique perspective to the setting. Also, a large group of Morlock refugees joined the island in mass, so if you would like to create a mutate character they could have arrived with the Morlocks. This would provide you with some connections to other Morlock characters.
See below for specific skill sets Phoenix Cove is looking for.
Community Needs & Available Positions:
Seamstress/Tailor: When savaging isn't enough. Phoenix Cove has a Boutique that could use a seamstress to help create and tailor clothing.
Farmers: Phoenix Cove needs a defined character who helps run the farm, take care of the crops, and supply the island with food. Also, farm hands or people willing to do manual labor are all welcome (and well compensated).
Therapists and Counselors: Considering the state of the world, it's understandable positions like this
would be a necessity. This would also an interesting In-Character way to interact with other characters.
Lawyers / Judges: Phoenix Cove could use an experienced paralegals, lawyers or judges to assist with legal disputes.
Entertainment: In short, people need things to do. Actors and/or a director for the theater. Event planners. Musicians. Someone who can run a local paper and organize reporters for the news. People to create new things for the entertainment of others.
Entrepreneurs: There are several businesses in Phoenix Cove (see Game Setting) but more is always merrier. Examples of possible businesses: Spa, Bowling rink, Arcade, Shoe Store/Shoe Repair, hardware store, a pizza place, ethnic restaurants, coffee shops, ect. If your character starts a business in Phoenix Cove, shoot a write up over to the mods and we'll add it to the website!
Construction: Many buildings have been neglected for a very long time. People who can repair existing structures are in demand. Expertise needed include construction, carpenter, electrician, plumbers, etc.
Teachers: Anyone with teaching experience who can educate the growing population of children on the island. This can include someone who specializes in teaching young mutants how to control their new powers. (Note - The game will never focus on the school. The island's school has a mix of humans and mutants, encouraging integration between the two groups)
Religious leaders: There are many different belief systems among the people of Phoenix Cove, and many people who feel the lack of a religious leader. One person couldn't fill all the needs of a single community, so anyone willing to help fill this would be welcomed with gratitude.
Other Positions:
There is a position section on the character biography and we use this as a way to gauge how you'd like your characters to contribute to the story. A character who fulfills a community need can also be an X-Man, of course. Here are some examples of other available positions:
X-Men (Active): Choose this if you want to be involved in the action, and you feel your character is a good fit for missions with offensive powers. This is also up to the discretion of the X-Men leaders and the mods in terms of picking players for missions who post consistently.
X-Men (Reserve): This character would get tapped for missions less often, such as in an emergency.
X-Men (Specific Position): There are specialized jobs available within the X-Men line up, such as Trainer, Medic, Teleporter, Field Leaders, ect.
Peacekeeper: The town's police that are called on for emergencies and help maintain order in Phoenix Cove. They are specifically kept separate from the X-Men and the two rosters are not allowed to mix.
Council: Characters can hold government positions in Phoenix Cove, most notably the Council. If you are interested in your character being involved in the politics of the Island, as well as implementing and voting on positive changes, let us know.
Entrepreneur: If you character will run a business, this can be listed under positions.
Civilian: Only used on missions in special circumstances, if at all. Civilian characters often contribute to the game in other ways. Note: Characters under 18 are automatically Civilians.
If you have multiple characters, try to make each of your characters fill a different position or role on the island. Understand that not everyone can be an X-Man, and there are other fun ways to contribute as well.
Fulfilled Needs:
There are a few professions and specialties that have been covered many times over. The mods try to discourage more characters with these backgrounds, just for the sake of diversity, and having new characters fulfill unique niches.
If your character concept leans heavily on being in one of these professional areas, we'll work with you, but would prefer that the character do it in a new way. For instance, we have a lot of medical professionals, but not a single dentist.
Medical Professionals: We have a doctor/resident, medics, a veterinarian, and a specialist in Eastern Medicine/mutant healer. There's nothing wrong with people having basic first aid skills, but many characters already have this skill set on a professional level.
Technical Skills: We have specialists in computers, mechanical knowledge, a technopath/savant, engineer, and scientists. While a lot of people can certainly know how to change their oil or repair a broken stereo, this skill set on a professional level is very well covered.
