Powers: Psioplasmic Bio-Field - Tate can generate a psioplasmic bio field around his body that increases his durability. The field encompasses his entire body at any given time like a second skin, completely invisible unless willed otherwise. The field is reactive, responding protectively to kinetic impact, energy signatures, and temperature changes.
With practice he has learned to exert more control over his shield, to manifest it as a weapon, he can create energy constructs resembling spikes along the surface or expel the field outwardly like a battering ram.
With effort he has been able to extend his shield around other people, though this drains him quickly.
As his personal shield is subconscious it takes will power and focus for him to "turn it off".
Power Limitations: Aegis' biggest weakness is that his shield is an extension of his body and as such he can feel a degree of the damage it protects him from. He's much more durable than normal but he can only take so much damage before his field fails. His shield is subconscious, protecting him even in his sleep but if he were knocked unconscious it would fall immediately.
As his shield is like a second skin it limits his level of sensation when he touches or is touched by someone. This means if he wants to fully experience anything tactile he has to lower his shields which takes a great deal of control. He is still learning how to extend his shield to others and finds the process extremely draining. The amount of time he can hold the force field is directly linked to the number of people he's shielding; he can cover one person significantly longer than two, ect.
Hobbies and Interests: Survival has been Tate's biggest "interest" since the United States fell but if you were to ask him he'd say that he loves South American literature, European pop music, sci fi movies, and comic books. He has a weakness for dark chocolate and shitty Chinese food.
Background: Tate was born in one of Dallas many suburbs to loving parents. His dad worked as an engineer for Texas Instruments and his mom was a OR Nurse at UTSW. He attended school, played on a little league team, and went to church on Sundays. He had a perfectly happy and normal upbringing, oblivious to the worldwide changes and ever growing darkness in his home. When Tate was twelve all of that changed.
His best friend's name was David and the two were inseparable. Tate's parents were both at work and somewhere in the middle of playing video games David had suggested they practice kissing on each other. They'd done it before, it shouldn't have been anything out of the ordinary. Except Tate's Dad came home and found them. Untangling their gangly limbs as quickly as possible Tate couldn't muster up words as his father told David to leave.
His father had barely shut the door before Tate was on the ground, his lip busted and bleeding. His father made it clear that day that he wasn't raising a pansy. He never saw David again. From the day on Tate saw everything he'd been blind to in his youth. Saw the way his father drank, the way his mother cowered, and the way they both looked at him.
For a few years Tate managed to keep his head down, to avoid attention of any kind from his father. His mother had long since accepted that the incident with David wasn't an isolated one, she'd even told him she didn't care, that she loved him regardless. It was this difference between she and his father that was the final straw.
His mother had bought them matching wristbands, rainbow ones, to show her support of his lifestyle. His dad didn't like it. He was bracing for a hit when the feeling hit him, like something breaking at his core. The blue light exploded out of his chest and surrounded him and his mother. He was a mutant and no one would ever hurt him again.
Leaving Dallas and his father behind Tate moved with his mom to Boston.
Despite the ever growing dangers for mutant kind Tate flourished in Boston, finishing high school in the top of his class and starting college. He even managed to find a boyfriend. Jeremy was amazing. He didn't care that Tate was a mutant, they were happy...for awhile.
As anti mutant legislation continued to pass and the general population began to turn Jeremy remained one of Tate's biggest supporters. He protested, he lobbied, he loved. When things got really bad he even arranged for the two of them to get out of the country. Or at least that's what he told Tate.
In reality Jeremy had sold him to slavers in exchange for safe passage to Europe. Tate was devastated, so much so that he didn't even fight back. He was halfway onto the slaver's ship when chaos erupted. A mutant was saving them! The man's act of selflessness was the push Tate needed to fight back.
The pair quickly became close friends and began travelling together. Tate’s force field manipulation abilities saved Max’s hide more than once and Max helped Tate train his abilities, refining them and keeping them in check.
After a run-in with local law enforcement in Chicago, the pair decided it time that they lay low for a while and have settled in to Black Hawk, renting a small two-bedroom apartment. With little in the way of practical skills Tate took a job as a gogo dancer at the casino's nightclub. He doesn't like the job by any means but its enough to get him by for now.
Personality: Tate has ADHD and it shows in every aspect of his personality. He talks constantly, gestures wildly with his entire body, and switches topics fast enough to confuse even the most attentive listener. He is fidgety, prone to worry, and filterless in the most endearing way. He has trouble focusing, has no sense of time, and rarely sleeps more than a few hours at a time. He is submissive in most things, often deferring to Max in tense situations. He has a bad habits of forgetting to take care of himself. Has a tendency to get overly attached to people close to him. He can be "stupidly brave" or reckless.
Special Notes (if any): Is allergic to shellfish and desperately dependant on medication to managing his symptoms.
