Powers: Pyrokinesis, which allows him to control and generate fire at will. He channels this through his hands, though some times, in stressed situations, he can cause a fire to erupt in the distance if his mind is focused on this. One the flame is generated he controls the length, power and form. This can vary depending on the situation. He can give the fire a flame thrower form, as well as waves, and can control the intensity of it, once it’s already burning someone or something. He can also create creatures with the flame, his signature being a fire bird, which he can control kinetically as long as it’s at close reach. His range can reach a the block distance range, but he needs to be looking at the flame in order to remain in control. Also, the farther the flame is, the weaker the power will be.
Power Limitations: He is not immune to fire and can get burn by it. However he claims that “it doesn’t hurt like it used to.” He controls the flames with the motion of his hands, much like a puppet master, particularly with the animals, meaning that if hand bound, he won’t be able to use his abilities properly. The fires that erupt from a distance are out of his control once they ignite. So even if he sets it up, he can’t put it out. Hobbies and
Interests: Staying alive. Though he enjoys word puzzles and sudoku, but aside from running around he doesn’t have much of a specialty.
Background: Takeshi, like so many others, grew up in a world hostile towards mutants. Though his parents weren’t out as mutants, his parents were always honest about who they were and what he could turn out to be. The family had done a good job of hiding in plain sight for years, but unfortunately his powers manifested at the worse time possible.
During a political rally held at his school, provoked by anti mutant supporters, he accidentally burst the building into flames. The authorities never traced it back to him, but his family nevertheless decided the best course of action would be to move away.
The family started to state hop every few months, but the sentinel attacks caught up to them and both his parents were killed ruthlessly. He and his baby brother were presumed dead, which allowed him to fly under the government’s radar. Pretending to be a homeless young father he relied on shelters and youth groups to survive.
He managed to get a stable job as a waiter at a small diner for a while, but due to the new scanning technology he had to once against bolt to the streets. It was never his plan to join the X-Men, though when the opportunity fell into his lap he didn't say no. It was food and shelter, and hopefully a safe, protected place for his little brother to live.
Some of the X-Men were weary of having a child so young at an active 'terrorist' base, a fact that was proved true when a man broke into the base to tried to use Shun as bait. Takeshi protected Shun and burned the man to death. He was the first person Takeshi ever killed, and even if it was in self defense, and to protect his little brother, he felt horribly guilty for how brutal it had been. The smell haunted him.
Even if the man was dead, no one felt safe after he'd discovered the 'secret' base so easily. Takeshi himself wasn't convinced it was the best place for Shun, but it was all they had, and so they stayed. The X-Men had become his friends, at least a select few of them.
After a few weeks passed and his paranoia and guilt had only worsened, his friend Rusti had a talk with him. His attempt to comfort him changed something in Takeshi. He didn't know at that time that it was an unintentional affect of Rusti's mind control powers.
Takeshi no longer felt guilt for what he'd done. In fact, he knew the nameless man had gotten what he deserved. It had been the right thing to kill him. Those thoughts over time slowly mutated into something more sinister, and Takeshi found himself caring less and less for other people's lives, both human and mutant alike. Everyone was expendable. Enemies who got in his way were typically killed and he was ruthless and remorseless in his attacks.
With his behavior becoming more reckless and dangerous, Takeshi was eventually asked to leave the X-Men. He was furious his so-called friends would throw him and a three year old boy out onto the street. What's worse, they wanted to erase the location of the base from his mind, as if he would try something. Well, he couldn't say they were wrong - he tried to burn the base to the ground.
Takeshi eventually fell in with the Acolytes and joined their cause. Their dismissal of human life worked just fine for him, though he mutants were also meh to him he knew better then to say so. The Acolytes worked for him until the island Vought had created for them was bombed and attacked by Sentinels. Strangely, it was the X-Men who came to their aid, but Takeshi wasted no time in attacking them.
He lost contact with the surviving Acolytes after the bombing and was once again homeless, running from Therizo and dodging Sentinels. Trying to keep Shun fed, happy, and protected was becoming more of a burden then it was worth. He eventually decided it would be easier for Shun to just die, maybe even better for him then constantly struggling to survive in this war torn world. Almost like putting down a pet that was miserable anyway.
So Takeshi killed Shun and though he had bouts of remorse and regret, mostly he was okay with it. He recognized the behavior as wrong, but couldn't change how he felt. The truth was, he barely felt anything at all. With Shun gone he was no longer afraid to venture into Apocalypse territory, taking odd jobs and mostly keeping his head down. He had no desire to be a part of their army, or to work for any of the Horsemen.
That was until he heard a rumor that the once mighty and holier than thou Noelle Mckenzie was the new War. He had to see for himself, and he had to know why she changed. She wasn't an easy person to get close to, and eventually he was found. He was sure she was going to kill him, but she didn't. Even though she never took off her helmet, he recognized her voice. He sold her some story about the tragic death of his little brother, and while the two didn't exactly have a heart to heart, he thought he understood her better after that.
Takeshi stayed in War's territory, figuring it didn't hurt to have a 'friend' at the top. He got to know some of her closest lieutenants but was never trusted enough to become one of them. When Apocalypse was killed and he heard rumors that Noelle was jumping ship, he begged to be taken with her. She refused.
Angry, Takeshi attacked them and barely escaped with his life. He eventually banded up with the Marauders, if only as a means to survive.
Personality: Takeshi is mouthy and has a problem with authority. He doesn’t trust anyone he meets, mutants or humans, and always has his guard up. He’s stubborn about his ways and often will take the offensive before any other reaction. He has little remorse or regard for human life. Sometimes he worries he is off his rocker, but he doesn't act emotionless - he can laugh, smile, and have a good time like any normal person. It just doesn't feel genuine. He is definitely the shoot first type and wouldn't blink an eye at killing another living being.
