Powers: Telekinesis. Ability to psionically manipulate, move or lift objects without touching them - he can levitate himself or other people and can create a powerful telekinetic forcefield of various sizes and strength. The shield itself is inversely proportional; the bigger the area he covers, the weaker the shield becomes, the smaller the shield the more focused the power. Trent can lift an average sized car with his powers, though he wouldn't be able to hold it for long.
Trent's telekinetic powers are touch sensitive - as if the energy (in the form of gray smoke) is an extension of himself. He can feel the texture and heat of objects as clearly as if he touched it with his own hand. This allows him to perform delicate tasks such as threading a needle, or more complex acts of coordination like typing on a keyboard. While helpful, this can also cause him to hesitate in several situations, particularly when faced with heat based attacks, and can at times be overwhelming and painful.
Power Limitations: Trent's powers do not include telepathy ability at all, he is no way immune to psychic attacks or intrusions. Trent cannot use other aspects of his powers while keeping the shield up, and any repeated force/weight on the shield for an extended period of time would be enough to take it down. If he overexerts himself he can suffer from exhaustion at the extent of losing consciousness and can have migraines that last for days.
Due to the nature of the ability its impossible to make the force field completely air tight, so while his field can withstand physical force, bullets, ect, the field is less effective in blocking radiant or conductive energy such as fire and electricity. This makes him more susceptible to energy-based attacks, especially when the field is stretched across a greater distance and so is less densely collected.
Whenever cut or wounded Trent's body secretes smoke instead of blood. This affects Trent negatively as his blood cannot clot effectively, giving him a form of mild hemophilia. Trent does maintain between 20-30% of normal levels of active 'clotting factor,' but still this can cause even the most minor wounds to require medical attention to avoid long lasting 'bleeds' that can be life threatening. This, and Trent's physical mutation, are a direct result of some genetic tampering at the hands of Sinister. Before that Trent had a completely normal appearance.
Hobbies and Interests: Trent is a experienced hacker, specializing in cracking network security and gathering encoded intel, and has a knack for most electronics. He is also a good artist but tends to downplay his abilities, he calls them "doodles" and usually gives his pictures away rather than keep them to himself. He draws and inks comic-style pictures most often, but usually stays away from color as it "ruins them." He isn't much for outdoor sports, preferring to stay inside with a good movie or video game. He has an appreciation for books and once owned a vast collection of books; non-fiction, fiction, graphic novels and art books but it was lost along with the X-Men's base of operations. He's still seen reading different books he finds around, and always carries his sketchbook and a tablet with him. He also loves food, especially sweets.
Background: Trent grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his mother and father, grandfather, and younger brother, Rusti - his parents were both born in Poland but migrated to the United States in their early twenties, and so both Trent and Rusti were born on American soil. The rest of the extended Piotrowski family was scattered throughout Poland and Germany, and Trent rarely saw any of them, with the exception of his aunt and cousin, Charles.
Trent was raised in a strict Roman Catholic home, and while he continued to attend mass with his family to avoid conflict and problems, Trent considered himself atheist at a young age. He never told his parents of this because the religious pressure in the family was very strong. Throughout his childhood this managed to start a rift between himself and his parents, as his family was very old fashioned and Trent was anything but - his life became all about the secrets he would never share with his family, one of them being that he was a mutant.
The only person Trent ever told was his cousin Charles, and he was surprised to find out he and his aunt were also mutants. It was something his aunt had never told his father, and he didn't blame her. Knowing that there were other people like him within his own family made him feel less isolated. The feeling was short lived though, as Charlie and Katja always had to return to Germany, leaving him behind.
Once talk of college started, his father greatly discouraged Trent's art and told his son there was no way he was paying for an education in "funny books" and would only help out if he got a degree in business management. To escape constantly being stuck under his father's thumb, Trent moved to attend the University of Southern California. There he met a girl named Noelle in nursing and the two quickly became inseparable.
In his third year, Trent was interning at a government agency for a class and the company changed a policy to green flag the mutant testing of employees. Not wanting to risk being caught Trent dropped the class without explanation and had to take an F, something his father was furious about. Even no longer attending the church and in another state his family was keeping constant tabs on him.
Trent realized whatever he did it would be wrong and was suddenly tired of doing exactly what his parents wanted, so he decided to drop out of school completely and move to Reno, Nevada instead. He cut himself off from his family except for his little brother Rusti and the occasional emails to his cousin Charles. He got a tech job at Best Buy to waste away in - the less he was contributing to society the happier he was.
Noelle and him stayed together long distance for awhile, but she didn't like the fact he dropped out of school either - though he could never tell her the real reasons why and maybe that was why they eventually split up. Trent stayed in contact with Noelle from time to time, but he wasn't expecting her to show up years later at his door needing a place to stay for the night. She told him the story of how she became homeless, about being a mutant, and he was able to admit the fact he was aloud. Her visits were off and on and Trent was content not to push it. When Noelle's car got towed and she had no where to sleep that opinion changed and he pushed her to stay with him if only because it would be safer for her. He was surprised when Noelle refused.
After the fight, Noelle drifted out of Trent's life again, and a couple months went by where he felt strangely lost. He tried to find her but she'd dropped off the face of the planet, and he was concerned that something had happened. For the first time he really paid attention to the news and realized the worsening treatment of mutants across the country, and worried one day Noelle would show up on the news. He tried contacting her family but her parents didn't know where she was either. He vaguely remembered Noelle talking in brief about a meeting in Wisconsin and decided to head there on a whim to see if he could find her.Trent did find Noelle at the meeting, and Trent decided to go with her to New Orleans to help form a new X-Men sanction there under an abandoned theater. It was rocky at first but they managed to put together a good operation with some help from the other X-Men teams. Trent was placed in charge of all tech machinery and communications, and helped organize and plan missions. He usually stayed on the tactical side of things, acting as a field leader only as needed. Trent and Noelle organized different ways that people could contribute to the team, Trent had a tech squad of three, Noelle with a medical team, and there were several trainers defined to help prepare the new recruits. The trainers specialized in different combat techniques, such as weapons training, powers, and hand-to-hand. Trent's little brother Rusti eventually joined the team and while it was nice to have a familiar face around it added some stress he could have done without. It was strange to find out about his little brother's powers after so long, and even though he was a mutant as well and had been keeping the same secret, due to the nature of Rusti's powers he felt a tinge of betrayal about being left in the dark. The two eventually had a falling out with their parents, which caused their own relationship to become even more strained. Even if the two of them weren't outwardly close, Trent would still do anything to protect his little brother.
During a rescue mission, Trent was captured by the Marauders along with one of the X-Men's psychics, Jamie Sakamura. They were taken to one of Sinister's many hidden labs and experimented on for weeks. While the X-Men were trying to locate them, Sinister took samples of their DNA, trying to combine and put their powers into others. She spliced her own DNA with Trent's resulting in a mutation - Trent's skin turned a shade of grey, his eyes changed, and his powers were always active, causing his eyes and mouth to constantly leak smoke.Another side affect of the genetic tampering was Trent no longer bled, instead when cut or scraped his body would secrete smoke. This had a negative impact on Trent, as his blood could no longer clot effectively, giving him a form of hemophilia. Also, after being rescued, Trent showed some post-traumatic stress symptoms while in medical facilities or in direct sight of needles or other medical equipment. While he's tried to keep the stress and panic under wraps, he has continuously avoided the base's medical bay and has refused treatment from the team's medical team on several occasions. Despite his love for her, Noelle and Trent's relationship had always been rocky. Several times over the years the two split and got back together, but it was truly final the day Noelle broke it off with Trent and left the team. Even if the two did not see eye to eye, Noelle was the only girl Trent had ever loved, and her leaving was a blow to him. Noelle's field experience was replaced by Finn Howard, her medical knowledge by his brother Rusti, and her companionship by Bridge, a girl who seemed to only have eyes for him. Still, without Noelle, Trent felt there was something missing in his life and perhaps always would. As the situation with Apocalypse worsened on the West Coast, Trent was surprised to find Sinister and the Marauders were working with Apocalypse. In an effort to get his 'attention,' the Marauders attacked his home town, murdering his mother, father and grandfather in cold blood. With Apocalypse's forces being so strong, Trent was unable to retaliate. He was aware his own family did not compare to the thousands of people Apocalypse had slaughtered but that didn't make it any easier. He had never had a good relationship with them which only made the regret and anger worse. His brother Rusti took the loss the hardest. It brought Trent closer to him than he had ever been before.
With the fall of the U.S. Government and the take over of Therizo, the United States was becoming a more dangerous country to defend and protect by the minute. Trent organized countless missions and relocated hundreds of survivors, humans and mutants alike, to safety. Safehouses became less and less reliable as all the other X-Men sanctions were targeted by sentinels and fell one by one. Trent lost some of his closest friends and allies, he assisted the few survivors as best he could, and invited those willing to join their ranks.
Trent was surprised when he received an email from Charlie. The two hadn't spoken in years, and he'd wrongfully assumed he had died like so many others in the war. His cousin needed help and Trent didn't hesitate to invite him back to the base. It was a relief to see him and to hear his aunt was also alive and hiding out in Canada.
With Apocalypse's forces rejecting technology and destroying nearly every city, the West Coast became little more than a wasteland and one that he was completely blind to. Trent was aware of needing someone on the inside, but there was no one he trusted enough - no one besides Charlie. The spy would have to be someone unrecognizable as an X-Men and someone that didn’t know any of the X-Men’s secrets. Charles agreed.
Charlie confirmed reports of Noelle among Apocalypse's followers, and it was revealed she had challenged and killed the Horseman War, usurping the position and supporting Apocalypse's reign. At first Trent refused to believe it, not until after he saw her publicly executing spies and relishing in each kill with his own eyes. That day changed him. No matter how much he analyzed the reasons, the signs, the possibilities, he did not understand how Noelle, the woman he'd loved, his friend and fellow X-Men for years could ever betray them so completely. It made him realize that no one could ever be trusted, at least not completely. No exceptions.
Shortly after, Bridge told him she was pregnant. The news couldn't have come at a worse time. The last thing Trent wanted was to bring a helpless child into this world. Bridge disagreed. The two fought constantly about the baby and had a falling out, cutting Trent off from the person he was closest to at the base. It was eventually decided she'd leave to stay in Canada with Rogue for the safety of herself and the baby. With the world so volatile, Trent didn't want her to go until she had safe transport.
In the mean time Trent redoubled his efforts to keep the location of their base a secret. His top priority was to keep his team alive. This failed when they were betrayed by one of their own, and Marcela lead Therizo straight to their doorstep. The damage was irreversible, the theater and the base below were completely destroyed. With many on the verge of giving up, Trent gathered survivors and pressed on, refusing to give up hope and continuing the fight for survival.
The team kept changing as people died or cut their losses and ran. Bridge had lost her baby during the battle and their relationship never recovered. At the head of it all Trent felt responsible for every single person lost, especially that of his unborn child. A part of him was starting to become numb to death, he'd seen so much of it.
The X-Men wandered for months in search of a new base, trying to fight against Apocalypse and Therizo between the constant search for food and shelter. In the end it was his brother Rusti who found the island that would become the X-Men's new home. Trent named the island Phoenix Cove; it was located in the gulf of Mexico, with homes, stores and streets that had been left abandoned after the virus. In it, he saw the promise to rebuild.
Personality: Trent has a quick wit and a dry sense of humor about him that can make him hard to get to know. He is level headed to a fault, appearing apathetic and outwardly unaffected by most situations. As a leader of the X-Men he has lost his jovial nature over the years, becoming more strict, unforgiving and to the point. He has a long fuse but once the temper is sparked he is a force to be reckoned with. After the anger has passed, Trent tends to "turn off" and will need his time and space alone. He is a very logical and reasonable person, but can be stubborn when he truly believes in something.
If Trent doesn't like someone he won't give them the time of day, and has no qualms telling them so, but he will walk to the ends of the earth to help a person he cares about.
Special Notes (if any): Trent smokes - both cigarettes and pot, though less frequently now. He also should wear corrective lenses when reading, writing, or working on a computer but has long since broken and lost his glasses, so doesn't bother. He loves sweets.
