Meredith YuEthnicity: Chinese-AmericanSex: FemaleAge: 25Appearance: Hair: Black Eyes: Solid gray/white (no visible iris or pupil) Skin: Greyish blue Weight: 115 Height: 5'8 Other: Her skin has the appearance and texture of smooth stone, grayish-blue in hue. She dresses in punker style clothing, and goes everywhere with her iPod, almost constantly listening to music. She also has a thing for knives, and always carries a switchblade and small daggers hidden in her clothesDate Of Birth: February 17Place Of Birth: Centerville, IowaEducation: Junior high drop outPowers: Mere has the power to absorb vibration and redirect it as sonic energy. Since she absorbs this type of energy, she is immune to other sonic powers such as Banshee's sonic scream, her body would simply absorb it. The color of her sonic energy is a dull blue, much like her skin. Her body is slightly more durable since the transformation; she is resistant to forms of injury that are skin deep, but if hit hard enough to damage muscle or break a bone the muscle or bone will be damaged the same as anyone else. It is difficult to break her skin with a knife.Power Limitations: She has to have an energy source at hand to use her powers; she cannot store it for later use. The vibrations can be simple enough as humming into her hand, though that blast won't pack much of a punch. The sound vibration would have to be at least 90 dB's for her to cause serious damage, such as blowing holes in walls (An example on how she could get 90 dbs would be someone screaming in her ear, a rock concert, headphones cranked up to what would be a damaging level for others).
Background: Mere grew up in a small town and a single parent home with just her mom and older sister. She was popular in school and well liked by teachers and students alike, she played both violin and piano and was featured in many solos in the concerts her class put on. She also adored her big sister, who liked to spend time with her and bring her along with her friends when their mother allowed them. Their mother was very controlling and cold, though she had always had a soft spot for Meredith, so much of her wrath was saved for June, who never seemed to do anything right in their mother's eyes. This seemed to directly correlate with the fact June was born with blue hair, which their mother was always forcing her to dye.
Meredith knew mutants existed and were hated by the community, but she'd never considered her sister one of them until June accidentally started a fire in the house one day. It freaked Meredith out, and she ended up telling their mother everything, who immediately kicked June out in the middle of winter. Meredith felt horrible about tattling and missed June, so brought her sister clothes and food secretly for the first few weeks. As the town became privy to why June had been outcast, places stopped serving her and kicking her out of hotels. June went into hiding, and only Meredith knew where. When another fire was set, this time in the capital building, it was assumed June was the culprit - the police pressured Meredith until she admitted to where her sister was hiding out.
After the Police went to collect June, Meredith was delivered the news of June's death. The men involved in killing her were applauded for taking care of the mutant, and made claims of June's powers that Meredith knew weren't true. They had killed her out of cold blood, June would have never hurt anyone. Meredith never forgave herself for that happened and blamed herself for her sister's death - eventually, as a way to cope with the guilt, she convinced herself June was a monster and deserving of her fate. As a way to deal with students at her school giving her the cold shoulder for having a freak sister, Meredith began to speak out publicly with her mother about their hatred of mutants, sharing their stories as a means to spread awareness.
This all changed, when she changed. Her mutation happened rapidly, and she went from a normal girl to a horrible monster over night. She was so angry with God for doing this to her, and knew she could never show her face to her mother or her friends. Meredith ran away, for awhile staying in the same old barn June had once slept in. She left Iowa, getting ridicule wherever she went for her appearance. She learned to take care of herself, even at the expense of others. She eventually joined a gang of mostly humans, but they were the first people who didn't outright shun her - still, she had a feeling of being separate from the group and she was never taken seriously.
She lived and worked with this gang for several years, learning how to fight, especially with knives, since she felt guns were too impersonal. One night on a nearly routine taking of a grocery store for food and money, the gang was attacked and almost all of them arrested or killed. Meredith and another mutant member, Eric, were taken to a mutant prison and then transferred again to a high security prison after they staged an escape. Eventually the two of them were rescued by Amelia Voght during her escape from the prison, and when the woman asked Meredith to stay and form the Acolytes to punish the humans for their crimes, Meredith agreed.
Meredith lived with the Acolytes on Utopia Island for several months, carrying a torch for her friend Eric but never quite working up the courage to say anything to him about it. Eric looked normal, and she noticed he only had eyes for the girls that appeared human anyway. During her stay on Utopia, the group had several run-ins with the X-Men and Meredith developed a personal grudge against the group after she was shot and badly wounded several times.
During the U.S. Army's attack on Utopia, Meredith was separated from Eric in battle. Escaping the Capitol, Meredith helped some inhabitants fight off sentinels and get to docks - though by the time she got there, she was the only one left. Halfway to the coast of California, Meredith witnessed the Island being bombed. For awhile, Meredith went into hiding, train jumping at night to get as far away from the coastlines as possible. She heard whispers of some Acolytes surviving, but she had no idea who, and was never able to get ahold of Eric.
After spending several weeks avoiding any human contact, Meredith ran into two mutants while trying to steal, a girl with small angel wings and another normal looking girl. Meredith was weary at first but was desperate to have some sort of interaction, with anyone, and the girls were nice to her and that was all that mattered. She was among her own kind again, and had an interest in starting another gang with them. Eventually they met up with more mutant girls, running away, or homeless, specifically two sisters named Blair and Rory. It was those two who decided to coin the name the Sisterhood.
The Sisterhood found June during one of Clover’s quests for more power, and Meredith couldn’t face her sister until she confessed her guilt. When June learned that Meredith had betrayed her to the police, their reunion turned sour, and now they barely speak. Meredith wants to rebuild their relationship, but June seems like a different person now, and it’s difficult to get through a simple conversation with her sister when once they shared everything.
She hoped that would change when they took shelter with the X-Men against all odds, but June seemed obsessed with her ex, then bent on aggravating the nearest X-Man, hoping to pick a fight. Mere was just glad to have a quiet place to be for a awhile, and kept a low profile. Then Clover suddenly summoned the Sisterhood to her side and they all left.
Things were tough after that. Food and shelter were scarce, and they kept running into the Horsemen's followers or Therizo. Then one day Rory turned on them. She was infected by the nano-thing created by Therizo, and it had turned her into a Bio-Sentinel. They managed to put her down, but then she came back... no matter what they did, Rory always came back, and she always found them. Soon the Sisterhood was desperate for someplace safe to rest, and after a while even Meredith wondered if the X-Men would reconsider the Sisterhood's exile.
Personality: Mere was doted on and over-protected ever since she was born; she had a load of self confidence just stemming from the fact that she just knew everybody liked her. Since her transformation she feels like an ugly freak and she never got over the anger the change caused her. She has become angry and bitter at not only humans, but at the mutants lucky enough to appear normal, to the point that in a fight she mostly aims to disfigure, so her enemies can get just a taste of how she feels. Under the darkness there are still snippets of what she used to be, outgoing, and with good humor, but the glimpses of that part of herself are few and far between.
Special Notes: Model is Mika Nakashima.
