Powers: Apocalypse has control of every molecule in his body. He can change his shape and size, turning parts of himself into anything from weapons like blades to rocket boosters. This ability allows him to evolve to adapt to hostile environments and disease. He has displayed some ability in telekinesis and low level telepathy. He does not age. He has genius-level intellect and a mastery of genetic science, as well as several other branches of science.
Apocalypse is in possession of Celestial technology, including a spaceship that he uses for his ultimate base of operations. The ship has the ability to cloak itself, beyond the ability of modern human technology to detect. He uses the technology on this ship to help him regenerate after he has been hurt beyond a certain point. He also used this technology to hibernate for thousands of years, as well as manipulate the genetic make up of humans and mutants. His blood can heal mutants and increase their power levels, but kills humans.
Power Limitations: Apocalypse has perfect control of his own body’s molecules, but not the molecules of others. He will eventually evolve to overcome any disease, but in the meantime a virus may make him weak enough to be handled by weaker mutants. His telepathy is limited to sensing presences and emotions, unless he is touching his victims. With physical contact, Apocalypse can dig deeper into someone’s mind, to get to their thoughts and memories. His telekinesis is really just good as a tool rather than a weapon, he is able to manipulate tools or push buttons or bring relatively light things to him using his TK.
Background: En Sabah Nur was born a slave in Egypt over 5,000 years ago. His skin was an unnatural gray, so he was abandoned to die in the desert as a child. He was found by a man named Baal, who took En Sabah Nur under his wing and became his teacher. When the pharaoh learned of Nur’s existence, he sent his soldiers to kill Baal and his student. En Sabah Nur survived, and evolved, developing his powers to go with his gray skin. He took on the name Apocalypse and destroyed the pharaoh that had tried to hunt him, along with his army.
He observed the dynamic between the strong and the weak among humans. He discovered alien technology in the form of a Celestial ship that had crash landed on Earth. He dedicated years to learning everything there was to know about this ship, including repairing it for his own use. He discovered stasis technology, that would allow him to rest and regenerate from the most grievous wounds. He could manipulate the genetics of any living thing using this technology, and made it his subject of study for decades. When he realized his appearance was not changing, and never got any older, he began to considering himself as like a god.
Over the centuries, Apocalypse would go to tribes and ignorant civilizations in the shape of one of their gods, and manipulate them into going to war with each other, to see who would survive. The endings were often too predictable to be interesting, until he discovered the presence of others like him, other ‘mutants’ that seemed to have the potential to match even Apocaypse’s power.
He eventually decided to put himself to sleep in his hibernation chamber, awaiting a time when more mutants existed, and more potential would exist for him. He woke once in the Victorian era, and met Sinister, bringing Sinister into his employ. He set his hibernation chamber to wake him in another hundred years and awoke in a time where the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four were prominent, if not trusted, presences in society, as well as other organized superhuman teams around the world. Tension between the superhumans and the rest of society was high. There was much fertile ground for Apocalpyse to plant the seeds of his plan.
Apocalypse could tell the time was right to create a war between humans and mutants, one that would ensure only the most fit would survive. He used his Celestial technology to interfere with faxes, emails and other electronic means of communication that the humans used, to manipulate the governments and escalate the fear humans felt toward mutants. This culminated in the US government’s coordinated attacks that wiped out the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, and ultimately triggered the guerilla war between the races.
Apocalypse waited patiently until the fighting had gone beyond little aggressions, past the point of no return. He selected four powerful mutants to serve him as his Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Death,
War, Pestilence, and Famine. Then he struck, almost totally destroying Los Angeles, and poising to make his next move to carve out his own piece of the world - just as a start.
Personality: His thousands of years living on this planet have given Apocalypse a unique perspective. He has observed and studied the evolution of the human race, and what he believes is its stagnation. He believes that he is the only god this world ever has, or ever will know - until the mutant evolves that can destroy him. He is arrogant, vastly intelligent, and very committed to his ideals.
