In the U.S. Marine Corps, Landra excelled in Marine Corps Martial Arts Program making her an expert in hand to hand combat. She has a tactical mind and has won medals for her skills as a marksman. She is the leader of the Purifiers with hundreds of troops and Alpha class sentinels at her disposal.
Background: Growing up in Bangor, Maine, one of Landra's first memories is witnessing the death of her parents by the hands of the mutant, Sabretooth. Her parents were human rights activists and she is still unsure if they were specific targets of the mutant or if this was just a random act of violence. Landra was only just a small child, and Sabretooth kept her alive in a closet with the bodies of her parents for several days. She doesn't remember much of the rescue, she simply could not comprehend what had taken place. She knew one thing, mutants were dangerous creatures that could not be trusted. A belief that was only reenforced by her anti-mutant Uncle, whom raised her after the tragedy. Landra was a diligent student and very proud of the country she lived in. She joined the ranks of U.S. Marine Corps on her eighteen birthday. In the military, she met a man named Jonathan Knight. Jonathan was smart, analytical, and dedicated to the protection and preservation of the human race. He was the one who first introduced her to the anti-mutant groups the Friends of Humanity and eventually a more extremist group, the Purifiers. As Landra's rank in the military rose, so did her involvement with the Purifiers. Jonathan and her were eventually married and she gave birthday a baby boy whom they named Adrian. When a way to test children for the early signs of mutant genetics developed among Purifier scientists, Landra took in their five year old son to volunteer for the experiment. At this moment being a high-ranking member of the Purifiers, she feared the consequences of having a mutant child, and was devastated when her son tested positive. The man that tested Adrian recommended an 'accident' to be rid of him and promised to keep the results quiet if she agreed. Though Landra tried, she could not bring herself to kill her only child. Adrian was the same age as herself when her family was murdered. Jonathan was more adamant of riddling themselves of their mutant child, but also did not want to be the one to do it. This debate dragged on for weeks, where Adrian was locked in the basement and treated no better than an animal. Finally the Purifiers gave them no choice, threatening to remove their rank if something was not done about their son. Despite the heart break, Landra was the one to pull the trigger.
Landra and Jonathan moved on as if Adrian never existed, throwing away or destroying all of his things, as well as his birth records. Landra did keep one photo, telling herself it was a reminder she couldn't trust anyone, rather than for regret. Eventually the two had a second child, a normal human named Marie, after Landra's biological mother. She raised Marie in the ways of the Purifiers, never telling her she had once had a brother.
Through dedication and time Landra rose through the ranks of the Purifier's to become its leader, second only to the President of the United States. She worked daily to try and get the anti-mutant agenda pushed into the public and the lives of all those around the world, playing some very important parts of the passing of the Registration and the Safety Acts.
When the President was assassinated, with half the country ruled by rogue sentinels and Apocalypse, Landra brought the Purifiers to the forefront of the public's eye. She welcomed humans to the area the Purifiers controlled, promising safety and a better life. She also pledged to defeat Apocalypse and any mutant who stepped foot on their land and eventually, beyond. The goal of the Purifiers was to wipe of the mutant population in favor of human survival and the purification and preservation of their DNA. To return American to its former glory, conserving the traditional family values of the old world.
Though the Purifiers and Therizo did not agree politically, it was not uncommon for them to join forces against their mutual enemy Apocalypse. It was clear Therizo viewed the Purifiers as a minor threat, not worth their notice, but Ammon always tried to appear as if his ultimate goal was to save and preserve human life. Landra cut all lies with the group when Therizo's leader Ammon was proved to be a sentinel himself, and it was thought he was creating new Alpha sentinels from humans against their will.
When Therizo released a virus meant to kill mutants, that instead started affecting and killing the human population, the Purifiers were hit hard and lost many. The groups genetic scientists were able to come up with a cure for the disease but not soon enough to stop seventy percent of the U.S. human population from falling. The cure is provided via injection only, making it difficult to provide any widespread solution. All humans within their territory have been vaccinated and there are many Purifier secs travelling the country trying to locate survivors.
Currently the Purifiers and their Alpha Sentinels remain the only pro-human force in the county.
Personality: Landra believes mutants to be subhuman animals, far removed from humanity and therefore sympathy. At the base of her hatred is the death of her parents and the devastation of her ruined childhood. She also blames mutants destroying her son Adrian's life. The wrong that was done to her, and her family and her son, must be corrected. She is out for cold-blooded revenge. Landra refuses to ever be a victim again and because of this is cold and calculating in all aspects of her life. On the opposite spectrum, she holds humanity in the highest esteems, is very loyal to her troops, and would die for any one of them.
