Motion lesson 6

OUTCOME

By the end of the lesson you will be able to explain and analyse circular motion in the vertical and on an angle to the horizontal. You will be able to use energy and centripetal force relationships to analyse non-uniform circular motion.

Engage

For a car to perform the loop de loop the initial speed must be enough to overcome frictional forces as well as give enough velocity to create the centripetal force required to travel the whole loop

LEARNING TASKS

Explain

Draw a diagram showing the car at 90o shifts around the loop. Draw in the acting forces and show how they result in a net centripetal force.

Explore and Elaborate

Prac: Hot wheels test

Vertical loop analysis

Evaluate & consolidate

Try these Qs 29 – 32

Why does the driver experience 6'g's at the beginning and end of the loop?
