OUTCOME
By the end of this lesson you will be able to describe and draw an electric filed between two point charges and examine the effect a filed has on that test charge.
Coulomb's Law enables us to determining the force between two point charges. Faraday determined that every charged object produces and electric field that permeates space and acts on other charged particles.
LEARNING TASKS
Explain
1. Give a definition for and electric field.
2. Give the expression for electric field in terms of force and charge
3. Show how this can be re-expressed using Coulomb's law
4. What does the density of field lines signify in a electric filed vector diagram>
5. Draw a small and large positive point source charge and their corresponding field lines
6. Draw a negative point source charge
7. Explain and draw an electric dipole
8. List the four important properties of electric field lines
