Unit 2

What do experiments reveal about the physical world?

In unit two, we start with motion as it is a large and challenging unit so doing it first enables the students to have time to come to terms with the concepts and mathematical analysis. It also ties in well with student doing methods as they start their calculus at this time. We will offer four options this year and then build up a library for more choice over the next few years. This year we will offer: 'Is there life beyond the universe?', 'How do heavy things fly?', 'How is radiation used to maintain health?' and 'How do instruments make music?'

For the practical investigation we are hoping to incorporate the Victorian Young Physicists Tournament into the investigation process but are yet to work out the logistics. Stay tuned!
