What are stars? - Lesson 6
OUTCOME
By the end of the lesson you will be able to explain how nuclear fusion works and how it is used to fuel stars.
Nuclear fusion is at the heart of all stars. It is the process by which smaller nuclei are fused together through several steps to create larger nuclei releasing large amount of energy in the process. The amount of energy can be calculated using E = mc2
LEARNING TASKS
Write out the fusion equations for the sun.
Draw the proton proton chain
Calculate the energy produced in joules for each step and to complete the chain
If the sun intensity is given as 3.846Ă—1026 W how many
proton-proton chains per second does
Make sure you are up to date with your forum contributions. Remember you should have asked two questions and answered two questions by the end of the fortnight
