You will use the hot wheels track to determine the minimum speed needed to get your hot wheels car to complete a successful loop the loop. You will use the vernier to determine the speed of your car as it enters the loop. The car must maintain contact with the track for the entire loop.
You will then complete an analysis of the set-up. You will need:
mass of the car
diameter of the loop
height of the successful release
Use the work we did on class to calculate the the predicted minimum speed needed to achieve a loop.
Not sure about the calculation? Watch here.
Discussion
1. By how much do your predicted and calculated value vary?
2. What is the reason for this discrepancy?
3. The mass is ignored in your calculations. How would changing the mass effect the real situation? Explain.
