Observing a generated signal

In this task you will use a Cathode Ray Oscilloscope to observe the signal from an AC source, a DC source and a generator.

Examine the image and find the relevant knobs, connections on the CRO you have

For each of these tasks you will have to draw the CRO trace on the grids provided

The CRO uses an electron gun which shoots electrons onto the phosphorescent screen. This means you should be able to deviate the electron path using a magnet.

1. Turn the CRO on and set up a line trace. Use the magnet face on and then side on along the trace. Draw the result. Use your right hand slap to verify your results.

2. Connect the CRO to the variable power supply on 6V AC, draw the trace. Make sure you note down the time and voltage settings.

3. Connect the CRO to the 6V battery, draw the trace. Make sure you note down the time and voltage settings.

4. Connect the CRO to the variable power supply on 6V DC, draw the trace. Make sure you note down the time and voltage settings.

Comment on the shape of the 6V battery vs DC from the power supply

5. Connect the CRO to the hand generator, draw the trace. Make sure you note down the time and voltage settings.
