Imagine your thermister has been placed in the circuit below. The supply voltage is 6.0 V

You now use a potentiometer in the circuit as below. In a fridge and alarm will sound if the temperature increases above 8^oC. The trigger will sound when its voltage reaches 2.0 V (assume you still have a 6 V supply)
