Medical imaging - Lesson 6

OUTCOME

By the end of the lesson you will be able to explain how optical fibres are used in endoscopes and how these combined with lasers are used for keyhole surgery

Optical fibres use the refraction of light and total internal reflection to allow light to travel through small thin fibres.

This is utilised to make an image for endoscopes

LEARNING TASKS

Explain

What is refraction?

How do optical fibres use total internal reflection?

Watch the video on the endoscope used at the VET

Explore and elaborate

Observe the laser through a flow of water.

Explain what is happening

Evaluate

Try Qs 20-23 from the text
