Electric power lesson 9

OUTCOME

By the end of the lesson you will be able to use your understanding of induced voltage to explain the functioning of a transformer. You will use the transformer formular to find voltages for step up and step down transformers.

Transformers change the voltage of electricity to enable different voltages to be used in components but also for electrical transmission

Key principles:

- Power is conserved between coils.

- AC input required.

- DC will only show a signal in secondary coil when switching on and off (Faraday's Law).
