Litchenstien Square

ARTIST STATEMENT

DESCRIBE

This is an abstract drawing that I dew and scaled based off of a Roy Lichtenstein piece. I made it for an assignment in art class, and it really doesn't have a setting or subject.

I used pencil to draw/scale this piece and then I colored it with watercolor crayons.

I chose to scale that specific Lichtenstein square because I thought it looked interesting and it had a lot of lines, which I thought would make it more fun to re create.

ANALYZE

I used scaling techniques to make this into a 5x5" square, because I was drawing it based off of a 1x1" square version.

I changed the placement of the lines a few times, because they weren't where they should be. Especially the diagonal lines on the right side of the square.

INTERPRET/EVALUATE

As I said, this is my scaled drawing of a square from a Roy Lichtenstein piece, so I don't have a story for this because it wasn't really my idea to create this, it was Roy's.

I could maybe see this relating to my life because I like stripes, and I like the colors blue and yellow, which are the 2 colors I used to color this square.

I think this could have been a better piece if I was better at painting. Since we used watercolor crayons, that means I have to paint. And I always feel like I have NO control over a paintbrush, so I don't like painting. So I think that maybe if I was better at painting and practiced it more it could've been better.
