Designs and Space

ARTIST STATEMENT

DESCRIBE

These drawings don't have settings. The subjects are leaves, a triceritops, a hand, and... the value scale doesn't really have a subject either. These drawings were all done in pencil except for the leaves, those were done in sharpie and twistable colored pencil.

I chose to draw those things because it was the assignment, but I made my hand in that position and I picked the triceritops dinosaur toy, and I arranged the leaves like that because I thought it looked more interesting and would be more fun to draw.

ANALYZE

I didn't really use any tequniques specifically. Theres contrast, between the positive and negative space, if that counts.

My project didnt evolve much except the value scale. I changed my ideas of what I wanted the zentangle to look like a few times, especially in the middle squares.

INTERPRET

These drawings don't have a story behind them.

These projects can relate to my life because I love fall, its my favorite season, so the leaves drawing could represent that, and also I like dinosaurs, so the triceritops represents that. Also, the hand drawing represents me because its a drawing of my hand. The value scale doesn't represent my life in any way that I could think of.

I think that the leaf drawing could have had better coloring. I tried to blend the colors together, but it was difficult to blend them with the twistable crayola colored pencils. Especially since I'm used to blending with Copic markers. Also, the value scale could have been better, as far as going from dark to light more smoothly. But other than that, I am pretty proud of these negative space drawings.
