INTERPRET
The story of this is that this angler fish is swimming in the ocean, very deep underwater, hunting for its next meal. This relates to my life because I love marine life, and think that angler fish are very interesting.
DESCRIBE MATERIALS
This piece was made with sharpies and colored pencils. After sketching the fish, I colored the background (around the pre-printed circles) with black sharpie to put the focus on the fish while keeping the circle pattern given to me for this project. I then outlined each part of the fish in corresponding colored thin sharpies, to give it a bold cartoonish look. I also did a lot of burnishing of the colored pencils to color the fish, although I did not do much blending, so the fish is rather flat- but I was going for a more cartoony look, so it worked out in my favor.
DESCRIBE PROCESS
For this piece I focused on the color of the fish being vibrant and bold, as well as line, with the smooth lines that are colored to match the general color of that part of the fish. This project did not evolve throughout the process. My next steps would be to add more depth to the blue parts of the angler fish, like the fins. The white colored pencil lines didn’t show up very well, so you can’t see the texture as much as I would have liked.
