ARTIST STATEMENT

INTERPRET

The story of this is that vaping is very bad for you. Not only has vaping been reported to kill people and destroy your lungs, but it has also been known to explode in your mouth and break your teeth and jaw (which is why his jaw is broken off). It also represents how kids who vape tend to think that they are cool, which is why the zombie character has a gold chain and a backwards baseball hat, like the stereotypical “cool guy”. This relates to my life because I think that vaping is very bad and I really hate when people are vaping in the drive through when I go to take their order while working at Aroma Joe’s (how rude, right?).

DESCRIBE MATERIALS

This piece was made with colored pencils mostly, and a black ink pen. I outlined everything in the black pen so that it would have nice clean lines, as well as give it a cartoonish look. I colored the zombie and smoke with the colored pencils to add color.

DESCRIBE PROCESS

I experimented with movement and line, like with the spiraling background, and color, with the zombie character, in this piece. This project did not evolve through the process. I’m not sure how I could add more to this piece or what my next steps would be, because I actually am really happy with how this turned out. I’d say maybe add color to the background but I’m not sure; I really liked the contrast between the black and white background and the brightly-colored character.
