ARTIST STATEMENT

DESCRIBE

The subject of my art is a chef making soup, in a kitchen (the kitchen is the setting).

I made this using a random ink splot on paper, sharpie, pencil, and colored pencil.

I chose to create that specific artwork because I thought that the ink splot looked like a spoon, and that kind of inspired me to draw something in a kitchen, and i thought of a person taste testing something in a giant pot.

ANALYZE

This art uses selective focus, because the pot and the chef are clearly in the foreground, so your eyes are drawn to that spot and you're mostly focused on that specific thing- the chef and the giant pot.

I revised the chef's hand position holding the spoon quite a few times. I found it tricky to get the hand in the right position. I changed it multiple times before I was happy with it. Also, I envisioned the chef being a male, but as I was drawing it I decided to change it so that she was female.

INTERPRET/EVALUATE

The story behind this artwork is that this girl really likes to cook, and she's making soup for dinner, because it was her night to cook dinner at her house. However she gets excited about having to cook instead of seeing it as a chore, and decides to taste test her soup, and she is happy, because it is delicious, and she is excited to share it with her family.

This drawing relates to my life because I actually like to cook. I mostly just cook chicken and rice, but I think that cooking is fun, and so I can relate to this art through my love for cooking.

I feel like I could've made the artwork better if I had better outlines. The lineart was a little messy because for some reason my hand wasn't as still as it usually is while I'm outlining art. I also didn't add any shading, which is something I wish I had done.
