DESCRIBE

The subject of my creation is a skeleton. There isn't really a specific setting (the background is just white with blood splatters) but I kept it white to make it seem slightly more medical and more like a hospital. Weather or not it really is in a hospital is up to interpretation. I made this skeleton drawing by looking at a still life (a small skeleton model) and I used pencils and red and black india ink. I chose to draw this because I have drawn skeletons in the past because i like to draw anatomy, and I wanted to see how much I have improved over the past few months.

ANALYZE

I used a still life to draw from to create this, so I guess my technique would be drawing from life. My project evolved a lot because originally I was going to do black ink splatters and make the splatters bigger, and also I was going to make the background look yellow and aged, to show influence from Da Vinci's anatomy sketchbook drawings. However, then I decided to leave the background white to give it more of a medical feel to the artwork, and changed the black ink splatters to red ink splatters, to make it a little spookier.

INTERPRET

This skeleton doesn't really have an official story, but here is how I would interpret it by looking at it now:

A patient in a hospital arrives to the ER in very bad shape most likely from a car crash, and undergoes surgery immidiatley. However, there isn't much the trauma surgeon could do, and they did not make it. The skeleton symbolises the death of the patient, the white background makes it seem like a more medical setting, and the blood splatters represent how bad the trauma was and how bad the accident was, suggesting that it was a very bloody site to see.

This project relates to my life in many ways, 1 being I love drawing anatomy and I love medical things in general, and plan to be a surgeon when I grow up (probably either trauma or cardiovascular). Another reason it relates to my life is because I love scary things, horror, gore, halloween, etc, and the artwork has kindof a darker spooky vibe to it. If I were to draw this again, I think I could make it stronger by adding a little less blood maybe (it kind of seems overpowering) and make the skeleton a bit darker, I tried my best to make it dark in certain spots but I still feel I maybe could have pushed the value a bit more.
