Extended Blind

ARTIST STATEMENT

DESCRIBE

This piece doesn't really have a setting or subject, it's just abstract. There are 4 little creations (a face, a cat playing with yarn, a horse, and a skull with a hat) so I guess that could be the subject, but it really doesn't have a setting.

To make this piece I used sharpie for the blind drawings, then using those lines I created the 4 objects and added geometric shapes in the background. I outlined all the shapes and figures using some silver and gold metallic pens, and I colored using twistable colored pencils, watercolor crayons, and markers.

I chose to make this specific artwork because I looked at the lines I drew blindfolded, and I saw certain shapes, so I turned those lines into that specific thing. It still looked very abstract though, so I added some geometric shapes to the background to add to that abstract look.

ANALYZE

I used selective focus on this drawing, because the 4 objects are kind of in the foreground, and therefore your eyes are kind of selectively drawn to those things.

The color scheme evolved throughout this drawing. Originally, in my head, I was going to make it a blue and purple color scheme. Then I decided to add a little pink to it. Then I ended up making it a whole bunch of different colors.

INTERPRET/ANALYZE

I really don't have a story for this piece. Its up to interpretation.

This piece relates to my life because the blind drawings were of my hands and face. Also, I turned the 4 drawings into the objects, which are all things that I like. The face could just represent me, and the skull is because I love skeletons, and I also like animals, so the cat and the horse show that I like animals.

The coloring i a little messy, and I'm starting to wish I added some shading behind the objects so that they were more in the foreground, so if I had a chance to redo this and make the artwork stronger that is probably what I would do.
