ARTIST STATEMENT

INTERPRET

The story of this is that this beautiful koi fish is swimming in a pond. This relates to my life because a good friend of mine really likes koi fish, and has a bathing suit with a koi on it that he wears to practice every day, which is what inspired me.

DESCRIBE MATERIALS

This piece was made with Sculpey and acrylic paint. I first used the Sculpey to form the shape of the fish, and then I used my clay tools to carve out lines for the scales and details on the fins. After it baked and cooled down, I then painted it with acrylic paints to give it the spots like a koi fish.

DESCRIBE PROCESS

For this piece I focused on color, with the best contrast between the orange and the black and the white, and line, with my scale and fin carvings. This project did not evolve throughout the process. My next steps would be to add more detail in the painting.
