INTERPRET
The story of this is that this person died and was an organ donor, and got to live on through someone else because of that instead of just being a ghost and serving no real purpose in the afterlife (other than haunting people). This relates to my life because I think that organ and tissue donation is very important, and I plan on signing up to be an organ donor when I get my license. I also love the paranormal and ghosts have always fascinated me, so I’m glad that I was able to include both of these things in one design.
DESCRIBE MATERIALS
This piece was made with colored pencils mostly, and a black ink pen. I outlined everything in the black pen so that it would have nice clean lines, as well as give it a cartoonish look. I colored the ghost and girl with the colored pencils to add color. I also used toned paper, so the white from the speech bubble and ghost really pop on the gray background.
DESCRIBE PROCESS
I experimented with movement and line, like with the loops in the background, as well as the ghost’s “tail”, and color, with the purples and blues used on the girl, in this piece. This project did not evolve throughout the process. I’m not sure how I could add more to this piece or what my next steps would be, because I actually am really happy with how this turned out. I would say I could maybe add more color to the background, but I also really love how you can see the toned paper (I used it for a reason!) and how that contrasts with the lighter colors.
