ARTIST STATEMENT

INTERPRET

The story is that this girl drinks Dunkin Donuts and has a hydroflask covered in stickers and that she was being drawn for a school project. This project relates to my life because I am drawing myself and things that I like, such as Dunkin Donuts coffee.

DESCRIBE MATERIALS

I made all of these drawing using nothing but a mechanical HB pencil. I blended with my fingers, even though I know that is bad, because I didn’t have a tortillin on hand at the time.

DESCRIBE PROCESS

I experimented with values in these drawings, as I did not use anything other than 1 pencil, so I really had to focus on making my own values from 1 utensil by adding pressure or blending things out, to give the drawings some dimension. My project did not evolve much throughout this process. My next step, if I were to continue this, would be to add some color, because although I like black and white and the grayscale in drawing, I also love color and think that these drawings may have looked better with some color added, even if it were just in some of the smaller details. Like, for example, I could color the iris of the self portrait and leave the rest grayscale (that might be cool).
