ARTIST STATEMENT
DESCRIBE
These prints don't really have a setting. The subject of the prints are the sea turtles. The work was made using linoleum blocks to make stamps, as well as gelatin plates. We also used printing ink, carving tools, and various objects to create texture to the background. The assignment was to pick a social or political issue to make prints about, so i chose to do sea turtles to raise awareness for the endangered sea turtles, because I absolutly LOVE sea turtles, and this was a very important and meaningful subject to me.
ANALYZE
I used stamping techniques to create the prints. My project did not evolve much.
INTERPRET
The meaning of this artwork is to raise awareness for endangered sea turtles. More specifically, Kemps Ridley sea turtles, because those are my favorite breed and they are extremely endangered, but it kind of refers to all turtles in general. This project relates to my life because I love sea turtles (they are my fav animal) and this cause is very important and means a lot to me. I think this artwork could possibly be stronger if the stamping was a little better, the turtles have some spots where the ink didn't transfer.
