Overview:
NewsELA is an incredible online resource that allows students to learn through reading, watching videos, completing assignments, taking quizzes, and having class and small group discussions! Teachers can either assign resources to students, or students can find them on their own. NewsELA always has current events in their Latest News section so students can learn about what is currently going on throughout the world. Content ranges from current events to science to myths and legends to history and is updated daily! You can browse by subject area or type in the topic you are looking for! After finding an article you would like to use, you can adjust its reading difficulty by adjusting the Lexile number. You can choose to assign the resource to your students, present it to the class, read the article aloud, print the article, or share it with colleagues or families. NewsELA resources can be shared with students through their NewsELA accounts or through Google Classroom. As the teacher, you can access the activity feed from your class, the reading summary, and track students' progress on their completed quizzes.
With the free subscription, NewsELA is a great supplement to your curriculum. With the paid subscription, you and your students have access to much more content. You also then have access to thematically curated texts, as well as lesson plans and activities.
