Overview:
Google Meet is a free web-based video-conferencing program similar to Zoom. Teachers can create a new Google Meet through the Google Waffle in the upper right hand corner of the screen, through Google Classroom, or through the Google Meet site. Google Meet can be used to meet with students or conference with families. Anyone within the PHA network can join if they have the link, code, or nickname. Members without a PHA email can also join through the link but may need approval prior to joining the meet. While in the meet, members can choose to turn their cameras and microphones on or off. The administrator of the meeting is able to turn anyone's microphone off. Members can change their background so that others are unable to see behind them while their camera is on. There is also a chat box that members of the meet can use to communicate, but can be turned off by the administrator of the meet. Members of the meet can also present their screens for everyone else to see. The layout of the screen can be changed to make different members' screen larger or smaller. Anyone's screen can be pinned to make their screen larger at any time to make it easier to see that individual or presented screen. The breakout room feature allows students to be placed in small group rooms. As the administrator of the meeting, you can determine how many rooms there are and who is in which breakout room. There is also a time feature so students know how much longer is left in breakout rooms. You are able to go to any of the rooms to check in with groups to offer support. The poll feature and question-and-answer feature allow you to ask students questions directly in the Google Meet that they can answer privately. Results of the poll can be shared with everyone and are saved for the administrator to view later. Google Meet is an outstanding program that connects members of the community easily and safely.
