Overview:

Code.org is an online website dedicated to increasing diversity and accessibility to computer science. There are five free courses available! Users learn how to use block-based coding tools and written code to make their creations. Code.org provides a comprehensive curriculum, which includes lesson plans, handouts, activities (both online and offline), videos, and online tutorials. The curriculum combines a balance of independent online practice, class discussions, and offline group activities. The teacher dashboard allows you to easily assign lessons, monitor student progress, and set the sharing permissions. All lessons are aligned with the Computer Science Standards.

To increase accessibility, students can choose to use the read-aloud feature to support their learning. Many videos also have captions in English available. Lessons can also be translated into over 25 different languages. There are also Hour of Code tutorials available. In the Hour of Code, well-known programmers explain the new skill in an instructional video. Then, users use block-based coding to create mini-games featuring familiar characters, including Disney, Minecraft, and many other popular gaming apps! Games can be saved in the project library, which is available to all other users to play and remix. Code.org even provides activities that require no computer to teach coding concepts in the physical world!
