|In a garden there lays a rose
who’s image it seems to have chose,
that glistens with dream’s glowing light
and draws in all with its delight.
|But we never see hidden foes
and miss what hides in plain sight.
“With beauty there’s pain” so it goes,
so beware the thorn’s awful bite.
|We prick our finger and there flows
the perfect world our mind sews.
And from this pain, the truth soon grows.
Our joy and love fades to fright
|when we realize that no one knows
that below the surface of height
is where our nightmares often dwell.
So beware rose’s tempting might.
"The Rose" was written in the Kyrielle poetic form, which consists of an aabbababaaababcb rhyme scheme over 4 stanzas with 8 syllables in each line (4 per stanza)*
