Repulsive Love

Love is repulsive.

The yearning for affection,

And the hate of it all.

The flowers will bloom,

But soon enough, they wilt.

Love can be controlled.

Love can be manipulated.

Love can be terrifying.

I hate it but I am in it.

I want it to stop, but it doesn’t.

It never does.

Writer's Statement:

I came up with the idea for this piece because I thought it would be interesting to explore the contradiction of hating love while being in love. For this piece I wanted to first start off with the character explaining why they hate love so much, as the poem continues, the character admits that they are in love. Although the character sticks to their opinion of finding love repulsive by explaining how they wish that their feelings would end. The idea of hating love while being in love showcases paradox and contradiction by the character trying their best to repel love while still finding their way in it.
