Curriculum
Course Title: Science
Department: Science
Primary Resources:
· FOSS / EiE Kits
Units of Study:
· Topic 1: Engineering Design
· Topic 2: Forces and Interactions
· Topic 3: Environments
· Topic 4: Invasive Species
Curriculum-Based Assessments: Science notebook, teacher observation and Summative assessments
Standardized Assessments: N/A
Description of Course: In topic one, students use the engineering design process to investigate ways to reduce/ re-use plastics. Topic two focuses on hands-on investigations to collect evidence on gravity’s effect on objects in order to predict future motion. Students will then use this evidence to design a roller coaster. In topic three. Students will develop a model to describe the movement of matter among living organisms. They will then evaluate the affects an environmental change has on the organisms that live there. In topic four, students will compare patterns of previously learned insect life cycles to understand how invasive species such as the Spotted Lanternfly survive and disrupt established systems. They will then develop solutions to this and other problems that threaten Earth’s resources and the environment.
