Description of Course: In this course, family consumer science students learn about real life issues affecting parents, caregivers, and those involved in careers working with children. Students study the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth and development, as well as the proper guidance of preschool children. Child development students plan, prepare, observe, and conduct learning activities for our community’s four and five-year-olds in the on-site Neshaminy Child Development Laboratory Preschool. Students are also exposed first hand to a wide variety of different careers that involve young children, so they have a foundation from which to draw when making a future career choice. Students who plan a career in the childcare industry can begin to earn the experience hours required for the CDA-Ready certification in this course: the candidacy prerequisite for the nationally recognized C.D.A. (Child Development Associate) credential.
