Description of Course:
One percent of all crimes today involve DNA while 80% involve some form of e-evidence from computers, cell phones, email, GPS, video and other electronic devices. Digital forensics as a field of study is expected to triple in size by the year 2021. This course looks at digital forensic evidence, how it is acquired and used, either in court or in business. Course topics include finding and preparing for court; camouflaged and deleted files on hard drives, recovering deleted files and basic data encryption and decryption techniques. Also covered is how to acquire digital evidence for use in a court of law with an emphasis on evidence being relevant and admissible in court. Computers are used to research and find data. Mock trials are conducted on the topics covered.
