Description of Course: Biology investigates the nature of life, its unity and diversity. The concept of the organism and its place in the biosphere is developed from an understanding of organic matter and the cell as the basic unit of structure and function of all living things. This course emphasizes the key concepts of metabolism, physiology, photosynthesis, heredity, biological change, & the interrelationships of organisms with the natural environment.
Foundations of Biology is designed for those students in Grade 10 who have basic skills in mathematics, reading and writing. The course meets the expectations of the basic biological concepts as defined by the PA state standards. The lab activities are designed to reinforce the various biological concepts.
