Description of Course: The Neshaminy School District World Language Department offers French and Spanish courses for grades 8-12 that allow students to study a language for several years within varying levels. Students taking these courses will be developing proficiency skills that include reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the targeted language. In addition, students will learn how people live in other parts of the world, how other people work, play, raise families, and run governments.
Students who do not take a Reading course during the 8th grade will be able to choose either French 1 or Spanish 1. Students who take Reading course during 8th grade will be able to choose either French 1 or Spanish 1 for 9th grade.
Course descriptions refer to both French and Spanish.
Honors French 5/Honors Spanish 5
This course is designed as an alternative to Advanced Placement for students who wish to continue the study of Spanish. The course will continue to improve students' interpersonal, interpretive and presentational proficiency skills as well as deepen their cultural understanding of the target language. The course will be conducted in the target language. There will be and emphasis on improving listening comprehension using authentic materials such as videos, as well as extensive speaking practice. Readings will include all authentic materials such as articles, essays, as well as literary selections. Attention will also be given to improvement in writing. Emphasis will be on conversation and composition.
