JA Prospective Family Night - November 19th

Do you know a family interested in attending JA Secondary next year?  Tell them to attend our annual Prospective Family Night on Tuesday, November 19th!  This is an open house from 5:30 to 7:00 pm and a great opportunity for families interested in JA to come tour the school, meet students and staff and learn all that JA has to offer!

JH Girls Basketball Tryouts

Tryouts for 3rd quarter junior high girls basketball tryouts will be held on November 6th and 7th; 3:30-5:00pm in the aux gym. These tryouts are open to any 7th or 8th grade girl interested in playing basketball during the 3rd quarter. Please come dressed and ready to play. 

High School Basketball

Practice will officially start on November 18th. If you are planning on playing, now is the time to make sure your sports physical is up to date. Registration will open on November 4th at noon. Please reach out to the athletic department with any questions.

National Letter of Intent

Have you already committed to a college to play a sport at the next level? Our NLI day is coming up next month and will be held on November 18th. Please share your information with the athletic department so we can help celebrate you and your success.

Athletic fees are posted to your student's account and are now due. Please pay these fees as soon as possible.

Trick or Treat Street - Tuesday, October 29, 6-7:30pm
JA Secondary will be hosting their annual Trick or Treat Street on Tuesday the 29th from 6-7:30pm. This is a free event. Please note, the event is only open to Jefferson Academy families and their elementary aged students. Candy donations are appreciated.

NCAA Webinar for College Bound Athletes

NCAA Webinar for College-Bound Athletes: Do you have a student-athlete dreaming of playing a sport at the NCAA level? Please attend the upcoming webinar on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 4 to 5 p.m. Parents and athletes will gain an understanding of the requirements and how to prepare for NCAA certification. Join NCAA Eligibility Center staff, who will walk you through what you need to do to compete at the NCAA Division I, II, or III level. Staff will be answering questions live during the presentation, so come prepared to learn how to take your game to the next level! Click here to register.

Hyland Hills Recreation

Hyland Hills is looking for volunteers for our annual Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Spooktacular.  Last year they handed out 30,000 pieces of candy in 2 hours to 600+ children with the help of our community volunteers.

Jefferson Academy Secondary has received results for lead testing in drinking water fixtures

In June 2022, Governor Polis signed into law Colorado House Bill 22-1358: Clean Water in Schools and Child Care Centers. This bill requires all licensed child care programs and public schools to test their drinking water for lead and take action when results show levels of lead at or above 5 parts per billion (ppb). The goal of this law is to lower children’s exposure to lead. To meet these requirements, Jefferson Academy Secondary has tested for lead at all water fixtures used for drinking and cooking.

Results Summary:

• 28 Fixtures were tested

• 28 Fixtures had lead results that tested below 5 ppb - no further action is required

• 0 Fixtures had lead results that tested at or above 5 ppb

Protecting the health and wellbeing of Colorado’s children is our top priority, and we will keep you updated during the process at Jefferson Academy Secondary. Schools/child care facilities that have lead results in drinking water above 5 parts per billion (ppb) must take action to reduce exposure to lead. When lead is found at or above 5 ppb, the fixture is shut off while a more long-term solution is underway. These solutions may include permanently removing the fixture from service, designating a fixture as “not for drinking”, replacing drinking water faucets or fountains, or installing filters. For the fixtures where lead is found below 5 ppb, we will follow routine practices to further lower potential exposure.

Lead is a toxic metal that is especially harmful to young children. The degree of risk depends on the child’s total exposure to lead from all environmental sources – air, soil, dust, food, paint, consumer products, and water. Typically old or corroded lead plumbing or old brass fixtures can contribute to increased lead levels in drinking water. If you are concerned about your child’s exposure you can have their blood tested. Please contact your health provider to learn more about testing your child’s blood for lead.
