Happy August! The Secondary has many exciting changes to share with our community this year. First, is our new school website which can be accessed at secondary.jajags.com. You will need to update your bookmarks and if needed, clear cache if the old page loads. If you visit the district website links to access the JA Secondary website, it will take you to the old site which is no longer being updated (so please use the link above instead).
You can still access the JA Newsletter any time by navigating to the front page of our school website and clicking on the Newsletter button under the photo banner. Family newsletters will continue to go out on Friday afternoon each week during the school year. This will be your main source of information for the school year, with important dates and links included for athletics, academics and activities, so be sure to read it weekly!
We are thrilled to welcome you to the start of a new school year! In education, this time of year always buzzes with excitement as we prepare for the months ahead. Not only planning for classroom instruction, but extra-curricular activities and athletics to ensure that every JA students truly experiences an excellent education and finds 'their' community at school.
Additionally, we begin looking for a variety of ways to bring our families into the school. The first of these, JA's Open House, will take place on August 13th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. This event is specifically designed for new to JA students and their families to come get a feel for our vibrant community. Students will be able to walk the building, get a lay of the land, check out their lockers and review their schedules. Generally, our goal is for students to have some space and stress-free time to navigate through their new school. However, our returning families are also invited this night to come and eat some BBQ, reconnect with teachers, meet other JA families. Food will be served throughout the event and you can eat before or after touring the school.
Our next community event will be Curriculum Night on August 26th at 5:30 p.m. This event will start with a whole school presentation; learning about JA's identity and our hopes and desires for your student. Then, following at 6 p.m., you will be able to learn from groups of teachers about what classes look like in their department throughout your child's career at JA.
More information will come the week prior to each event in our JA Newsletter.
Starting this fall, JA will begin serving breakfast to students prior to A-Block. The kitchen will be open from 7:45 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. each school day. Students can eat in the cafeteria during first period. Breakfast will be served on August 14th, however, since it is a half-day no lunch will be served.
Both breakfast and lunch will be provided free to all JA students this year. Families that are eligible for free and reduced lunch, however, should still complete the Student Benefits Application to receive free access to other district programs and services. Previously called the "Free and Reduced Lunch form" or "Meal Benefits Application," it can be found on the district website and submitted electronically before the school year begins.
Student IDs
Student ID's from the previous school year can be used for meals until new cards are given out after this year's picture day. Please remind your student to bring their student ID for the fastest check-out.
Families who have previously restricted additional purchases for their students during meal times will need to renew them for this school year. You can do so on School Cafe. This process needs to be completed annually to let the kitchen know any items or spending limits you would like set.
Our regular school day starts at 8:25 a.m. with students attending their A-Block class. Students enrolled in a 1st period begin the school day at 7:30 a.m. Dismissal is at 3:20 p.m. every day. You can access the 2024-2025 Family calendar to view the entire year's schedule.
JA's online registration is for ALL new and returning student(s) and must be completed by August 9th.
Step 1: Go to JA Secondary Registration This process must be completed fully for each student who will be attending JA Secondary this school year. This registration is specific to JA Secondary and is in addition to the Annual Update for Jeffco Schools (see step 2). Please complete each step in the process, including paying student fees.
Step 2: Jeffco Public Schools Annual Update
It is important for all Jefferson Academy families to complete the registration process for their student(s) at the start of each school year.
Steps for Completing Jeffco's Annual Registration
Jeffco Registration opens Thursday, August 1
All returning families will register through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
In the menu, click "more", then "Online Registration" to begin the update.
If you need help with your username and/or password, please use the Personal Account Manager to recover or reset your information.
We encourage you to read these helpful tips to complete the annual update. If you have issues with registration after reviewing the helpful tips, please contact JA directly.
All students at JA Secondary are expected to bring an internet ready device with a full size physical keyboard. The device your student uses could be any of the following: a Windows laptop, a Macbook, an iPad with keyboard, a tablet with keyboard, or a Chromebook. Google recently extended the life of Chromebooks to 10 years for any device manufactured after 2021 but make sure to check the Auto Update Expiration if you are planning to purchase a Chromebook. A cell phone does not meet the requirements.
JA uses a SonicWall firewall to monitor and filter activity and content for students when they are in school and attached to the school network. Per the technology acceptable use policy, VPNs are not allowed on the school network. It is up to each family to decide how to filter and monitor devices when they are not attached to the school network. For security purposes, we also require students to register their NEW device in order to access our filtered internet service.
School picture day is coming on Thursday, August 15th. Students will have their photo taken during the day. You can pre order packages today on mylifetouch.com using your Student's ID number or Picture Day ID: RNBJ9GTVE.
