PRINCIPAL NOTES
This week is the beginning of required state testing at JA. We use results to ensure we are meeting the needs of all students and their participation helps make Jefferson Academy an even better school than it already is.
All 7th & 8th grade students take CMAS in their Math & ELA classes Monday, April 8th through Monday, April 15th. This is a normal school day for all other students.
On Wednesday, April 17th, 8th graders will be assessed in science and 11th graders will take the SAT. There will be no school for grades 7, 9, 10, 12. The SAT test for 11th graders will last from 8:30 to approximately noon. We are asking that 8th graders bring a sack lunch as science testing will also begin at 8:30 a.m. and last until approximately 1:15 p.m.
On Thursday, April 18th in the morning; 9th and 10th graders will take PSAT and in the afternoon 11th graders will be assessed in science. There will be no school for grades 7, 8, 12. PSAT 9 & 10 testing will begin at 8:30 and end at approximately 11:30 a.m. The CMAS Science test for 11th graders will last form 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Jeffco Communications sent out the following emails to parents explaining PSAT 9, PSAT 10, and SAT - These letters provide 9th, 10th, and 11th grade families with information regarding the process that students will need to follow if they wish to participate in completing the optional data fields (Grades 9, 10 and 11) and/or optional enrollment into the Big Future School and Connections app (Grades 10 and 11 only). If students/parents want to participate in the Big Future School and Connections app-a consent form must be signed and returned to the testing proctor on the testing day. Consent form

Athletic College Information Night
Are you thinking about playing a sport in college? Join us for an informational night about the ins and outs of what it looks like and what is required. This meeting will be held on April 24th at 6:00pm in the auditorium.
Do It For Dominic D Scholarship
A message from the DePalma Family: I am excited to let you know that we are finally ready to announce the launch of the application process for The Dominic DePalma Memorial Scholarship. Do It For Dominic D is established as a 501(c)(3). Our board of directors has approved the Memorial Scholarship Application and the form is complete. We intend to announce the recipients of Dominic's scholarships in conjunction with the player placement process that area soccer clubs follow, should the financial assistance they request involve club fees. Therefore, our application deadline will be around May 7, 2024. Please note that applicants will be expected to provide 3 letters of recommendation (from a coach, a teacher, and a fellow player or player parent), which will take applicants at least a week to collect. 8th Grade Athletic Information Night
We would like to invite all 8th graders (and their families) that are intending to play sports in high school to an informational meeting on Monday, April 29th in the Auditorium at 6:00pm. Information will be provided on available sports at JA and also how to play a sport if it isn't offered at JA. Please come with questions so that your student will will feel like the are well informed of the expectations of a high school athlete. We hope to see you all there.
ACTIVITIES
Hope House Supply Drive
Key Club is holding a supply drive from March 26th to April 16th for Hope House in Arvada. Hope house empowers parenting teenage moms to strive for personal and economic self-sufficiency as well as support in a healthy future for them and for their children. Key Club is collection supplies such as diapers, baby wipes, and hygiene supplies for the student-mothers. The drive is a competition between A-block classes and the class with the most donations will win bagels and a gift card for their teacher.

Global Youth Service Month - GYSM is centered around Global Youth Service Day April 26-28. It is in it’s 36th year, put on by Youth Service America, and is a nationwide effort to encourage and support youth ages 5-25 to be involved in serving in their communities. JustServe is hoping to help support this effort by encouraging the service. Here is a LINK from JustServe which contains a list of local organizations with projects suited to youth who are wanting to serve their communities. For example, one of those is the City of Westminster's Great Global Clean up the week of April 20. Info on that can be found HERE.
West Point Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) - SLE is a one-week program for current Juniors (High School Class of 2025) to visit West Point in June. Students in this program get to spend the week with our cadets, live in the barracks, and eat in the mess hall. Learn about West Point’s world class academics by trying 4 of our 17 academic workshops. Learn about military training and becoming a Leader of Character at West Point by completing two military days to include rappelling, Zodiac boats, combatives (like Jiu-Jitsu) training and more! Challenge themselves physically by attempting the Candidate Fitness Assessment, conducting physical training, and sports. Complete their admissions interview with a cadet. Spend the week making friends with other students from all over the US who are applying to West Point. Applications will be accepted until April 15th. SLE is competitive and not all who apply are offered to attend.

An all-expenses-paid five-day conference that brings together a special group of boys and girls from Colorado and Wyoming to share ideas about becoming better leaders. An action-packed program of activities that helps build confidence and leadership skills (like problem-solving games, challenge course, zip-line, skits, group discussions and team building activities).
REMINDERS
Mandatory Meeting for current Seniors and Parents
Save the date for the mandatory senior meeting on Monday, April 8th at 6:30 pm. All graduating seniors and at least one parent MUST attend this meeting. We will discuss graduation, the senior contract, yard signs and all the end of year events for seniors. Please make arrangements now, so you can attend.
Free Lunch in Cafeteria
Students need to have their Student ID card scanned for lunches in the cafeteria. If your student has misplaced their ID, they can purchase a new one for $5 in the main office.

Honor Roll certificates will be delivered to student's D Block classes on Thursday, April 8. Please check in with your student if you are looking for their certificate.
